Z’Tejas at The Arboretum

Published by Monique on

Z’Tejas is one of those restaurants that is foundational in the Austin food scene and helped shape it into what it is today. It has been around for over TWO DECADES y’all! Trends may come and go but it’s places like this that deserve to be celebrated and cherished.

I was privileged to dine at their Arboretum location (the one of two locations left in Austin) and everything was better than I expected! The restaurant has really jazzed up their menu as well as their flavor combinations. We got their smoked chicken quesadillas loaded with perfectly smoky chicken, corn, beans, onions and lots of cheese. The Texas Trio include guacamole, red salsa, and the most perfect green chile queso. I like my queso with a lot of zing and this totally nailed it! It brings serious competition to other reigning quesos in town.

For our main entrees, we ordered the seafood enchiladas and miso glaze salmon. Don’t those sound so tasty?! The seafood enchiladas came with blackened salmon, tuna, cilantro pesto shrimp, roasted mushrooms, baby spinach, roasted red pepper sauce, rice and black beans. It’s for SURE one of my new fave dishes in town. The sauce itself is worth coming back for! The miso glaze salmon is one of their “classic” menu items that they are bringing back for a limited time. It includes a sweet and spicy miso glazed salmon filet with an ancho wine reduction sauce served with saffron green chile rice and seasonal vegetables. A super unique and delightful dish to round out the evening!

IMPORTANT NOTE! Z’Tejas will be serving up their famous Sixth Street margarita for only $1.99 during happy hour as part of a throwback special! Plus, guests now receive complimentary cornbread with each meal! The drinks and corn bread are sooo good y’all – you don’t want to miss out! Their happy hour is M-F from 3 – 7 pm and on the weekend from 3 – 5 pm. Get your booty on your way to their 6th St. or Arboretum location and thank me later 🙂
