A Weekend in Wimberley
2020 is the year of road trips and staycations – there’s no place better to do that in Central Texas than with Lodgewell! They gifted me a two night stay at the most beautiful property, dubbed The Good Morning Ranch, in Wimberley. Joel and I have one hell of a year so far and I’m so grateful for our FIRST getaway of the year (that’s right, we hadn’t taken any kind of vacation all year!) Before I get to the town, let’s talk about this exquisite property.
It’s a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom house off a gravel road so there’s tons of privacy and land to explore! The house has all the amenities you could want and has that cozy ranch-meets-cabin feel. The smell of juniper trees fills the air when you walk outside. Did I mention it’s pet friendly? I have a hard time leaving Obie’s side since his accident/amputation this year, and having him with us brought me so much joy. He was so well behaved off leash (probably because there were no other animals or people around). This place is as dreamy as it gets!
In between quarantine, being socially distant, and life as we know it being turned upside down, it was important for Joel and I to take a break and enjoy quality time with each other and the natural beauty around us. This place did just that. Lodgewell has over 15 properties so if you’re wanting something in the city or off the beaten path, for a romantic weekend or a group getaway, they have something for everyone!
We didn’t do too much in town but we did dine out twice (oh the luxury!) on large and open patios so that we felt safe (and yes, you are supposed to wear your masks even in the open air). We walked around the square to a few shops (a few noteworthy ones include Ceremony Botanical Studio, Old Mill Store, Find Boutique and Star Antique). We enjoyed lunch at Inoz surrounded by beautiful huge trees and a small creek. I had a huge plate of chicken nachos and Joel had a steak sandwich. Yummmmo. We also got some sweet treats to go from Sugar Shack Bakery – they had a several GF options, and I went with the cheesecake which was insanely delicious!
Jobell Cafe is the most quaint and adorable restaurant I’ve been to in a long time. Not only was the food absolutely incredible, but the ambiance was just as amazing. We sat on their lovely patio next to a pond with running water and that sweet smell of Juniper in the air. I wish we had something like this in Austin! I had the Jobell salad with steak (omg that steak, I still think about it) and herbed mashed potatoes, and Joel had clams and mussels and a glass of wine (sweet man went months without having any in solidarity with me!)
Wimberley had us jumping for joy and gave us the refreshment we desperately needed, all while celebrating two years of marriage and a baby on the way. I can’t thank Lodgewell enough for hosting us – and I can’t recommend them enough!
