Newk’s Eatery is now in Downtown Austin!
The beloved Newk’s Eatery is now in downtown Austin! I was hosted by their lovely team and was able to try many of their classic and special menu items. They’re located on 4th and Congress – the PERFECT spot for all you downtown worker bees to grab some lunch! Plus, they have a beautiful second floor patio where you can get some serious sunshine.
We ordered the spicy shrimp pizza – we were hesitant about it but Liz assured us that it’s a MUST. I’m so glad we did because it was AMAZING. Sort of like a shrimp alfredo pasta, but on a flatbread! Plus, they don’t microwave or fry ANYTHING in their kitchen – it’s all baked or made on the stove.
I ordered the Newk’s Favourite salad and it was the size of my head. Seriously, this could feed three people! It comes with sliced flame-grilled chicken breast, Arcadian mixed greens, crumbled gorgonzola cheese, sliced grapes, artichoke hearts, pecans, dried cranberries, house-made croutons and made-from-scratch sherry vinaigrette. It was a little on the sweet side – I’d nix the cranberries and order the dressing on the side.
The mac n cheese was soooo tasty, too! We had the classic five cheese mac AND the pimiento and bacon mac n cheese! I could eat either any day of the week.
I didn’t even know they had dessert until Liz brought this out… rice krispie treats – some plain and some with peanut butter chocolate, a triple chocolate cake, and my favourite, a fluffy lemon cake! These are all made from scratch in house, too. Save room for their desserts (or grab one to go)!
I definitely recommend checking them out next time you’re downtown! Whether for lunch, dinner, or to grab something to-go, Newk’s high quality, fresh ingredients are just what us Austinites need.
