Fresh Tex-Mex from Cyclone Anayas at The Domain

Published by Monique on

I recently had the pleasure of being invited to Cyclone Anayas at The Domain to try their menu. This was one of the most impressive media dinners I’ve attended in a long time. Executive chef Jason Gould is creating incredibly fresh, delicious eats and sourcing locally from places like East Poultry. I can’t say one bad thing about this place – the beautiful patio, roomy interiors, and great service makes this the perfect spot for everyone to enjoy great tex-mex (they have vegan, vegetarian and gluten free menu options)!

We started out with the loaded chili con queso, seafood ceviche, and fresh guacamole. The loaded queso comes with jalapeños, pico de gallo and your choice of spinach or taco meat (we got the meat obviously). The guacamole is made table side and is so fresh, blended perfectly with tomatoes, onions, lime and salt. Then there’s the ceviche… one of my favourite things I had the whole night: lime and herb-cured seafood served with avocado and crispy plantains!

We then got a half order of the steak and chicken nachos: corn tortilla chips topped with smashed beans, melted cheese and beef fajita or chicken fajita. Served with sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo and jalapeños. I love that each nacho is made separately so you have the perfect ratio.

Did I mention the drinks are amazing? This is the Pineapple Smash made with Sauza Hornitos black barrel tequila, agave nectar, pineapple juice and fresh mint leaves. I also really liked the special of the month: Avion Silver Tequila, passion fruit Puree, and cranberry juice. YUMMMMM!

A lot of restaurants have their own take on fish tacos, but these are my new favourite. Grilled fish, pico de gallo, and a lot of fresh avocado. It’s served with spicy coleslaw, creamy cilantro lime dressing, and rice and beans. I can’t wait to eat these again!!

The carne guisada is made traditionally, slow simmered over-night with a blend of beef and pork, and swimming in their savory sauce. They wrap it in a large, homemade tortilla, cover it in a cheese blend, and serve with rice and beans. If this isn’t the ultimate comfort food, I don’t know what is!

As my dad liked to say, there’s always room for dessert. This tres leches is layered beautifully, perfectly creamy, and has a nice sprinkling of cinnamon for the most delicious dessert. It’s a must have!
