Peri-Peri Dreams at Tio Pepe Chicken
I recently traveled to London and of course had to stop at the beloved Nando’s. I was bummed coming back to Austin knowing that we didn’t have anything like that here… and then Tio Pepe appeared and all my dreams came true!!!! I’d say the majority of people haven’t had Nando’s or even know what peri-peri is, and that’s a huge reason why I’m happy that owner Pepe Garcia brought it to Austin. While it’s technically Portuguese, there are spices in peri-peri that are from all over the world. And it makes for a truly delicious experience.
I ordered the half chicken with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies. I loved every bite of this healthy, roasted, tasty meal! The chicken is perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful. My favourite sauce to add is their medium hot sauce – it could basically go on anything!
Joel ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with garlic sauce, french fries and a caesar salad. The chicken was a tad dry but that’s what aalllll the bottles of sauce are for. I definitely stole several of his fries (I know I had mashers but those are a completely different type of potato).
So beautiful!
I hope more and more people check out Tio Pepe and make this as much of a trend as Nando’s is in England. I love anything that promotes diversity, and food is a great way of doing just that, Did I mention our meal was only $22?!
You can also order a WHOLE chicken – it’s the best rotisserie chicken you’ll get in town. I’m definitely going to try their cilantro rice and chicken croquettes next time! They also carry great local beers and have an old school soda fountain. They’re located at The Linc (next to Pluckers) and are open every day of the week.
Here are their hours:
Sunday 11 am – 8 pm
Monday – Thursday 11 am – 9 pm
Friday – Saturday 11 am – 10 pm
