Delicious Szechuan Cuisine at Fat Dragon

Published by Monique on

One of my absolutely favourite new spots in town is Fat Dragon and I’m so pleased to write about them and share my experience with y’all!!

Fat Dragon exemplifies Asian cuisine with its fresh produce, handmade dumplings, genius fusions and authentic flavors from Szechuan and beyond. The freshness factor is what stands out most – nothing is greasy or heavy!

We ordered a LOT of food to make sure to sample all they have to offer. This is the Dry Pot Beef with cauliflower, broccoli, snap peas, and lots of chilies! The spice level can be a little tongue-numbing but the flavors were on point.

I have to say my favourite thing I had was the spicy shoyu ramen – it was a fusion of Japanese, Chinese and Korean spices and ingredients. The noodles were perfectly tender, the broth was light but flavorful, lots of spicy ground pork, and that perfectly marinated jammy egg! They also add extra dashi on top so it’s literally bursting with bold flavor! I had my leftovers of this the next day and it was still incredibly fresh and tasty.

We had to get some greens in – these are their seasonal snow pea leaves steamed and mixed with fresh garlic and ginger. I added this to all my other dishes for some extra color and it was so, so good!

These pork and spinach dumplings were packed full and sooo flavorful, light and fresh! I actually saw the owner’s wife with floured-up hands holding a huge pan of freshly made dumplings. SO incredibly yummy!

Shrimp siumai is one of my most favourite things to eat and these did not disappoint. They’re full of fresh lump shrimp and every bite was delicious!!

Alright, I knew you were all waiting for this… the soup dumplings. I would say they were some of the best I’ve ever had. I had their original and lemongrass chicken. The latter was my fave because I love anything with fresh lemongrass, but both were extremely impressive and delicious!! Just look at how perfectly made they are – it’s the ultimate cold weather comfort food.

Overall, you gotta get your butt over to Fat Dragon. Yes, its quite far north but it is WORTH IT!!! I mean look at that excited face! There’s still so much more I want to try – just take a look at this looong menu.
