Local Brewpub Creates Fresh Eats Since 1999
I’ve lived in Austin since 2010 but had no idea that NXNW has been here for over 18 years! I love this town and all the amazing people that make the food scene what it is, including the folks at NXNW at Stonelake. They’ve been revolutionizing beverages and food since they started, and you can taste the quality and creativity and all their beers and dishes.
Kelsey and I started by ordering a beer flight and a Mexican martini, as well as a few tasty appetizers including the bacon wrapped scallops, roasted garlic bulbs, and kale arugula salad. Soooo yummy!
The bacon wrapped scallops were huge and delicious! Chef Albert told us that they only source dry packed scallops, meaning there isn’t any excess water soaked into the scallops producing a fresher, more lump scallop. It’s paired with goat cheese, a bed of spinach, cherry tomatoes and light mustard vinaigrette. The kale arugula salad was one of my faves and comes with smoked beets, feta, dried dates, roasted corn, pickled onions and citrus vinaigrette. So soooo good! The roasted garlic bulb dish was super unique – it comes with whipped goat cheese & roasted garlic cloves with house beer grain flatbread. Delightful (plus the beverage director had a few martinis made for us including one with lychee and another with melon liqueur).
Their pizza crust is a new recipe from Chef Albert which includes reusing beer grains. We ordered the PPM which has pepperoncini, pepperoni, mushrooms, mozzarella and homemade marinara! Good gosh it was good!! As if that wasn’t enough food, we ordered two huge entrees. Their special of the night was ruby red trout with garlic butter, saffron mashed potatoes and lump grilled asparagus (with a side of rich mushroom risotto). This was the PERFECT summer dish and such an amazing blend of flavors. Kelsey had the grilled 16oz bone in ribeye with roasted garlic butter, bleu cheese scalloped potatoes and more lump grilled asparagus. She had the bacon spinach risotto as well. Everything was just so good. I really can’t believe I hadn’t been here before!
As if we had any room for dessert… but you know we couldn’t say no 😉 We ordered the peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream and the oreo – strawberry cheesecake. It. Was. INCREDIBLE! The beverage director also sent over an espresso-chocolate martini as a nightcap.
They also have an incredible happy hour from 4-7pm from M-F with cocktails starting at $4 and appetizers starting at $5.50 (including the PPM pizza listed above)! If you haven’t been to NXNW, you definitely need to make it a priority. I was seriously so impressed by their creative menu!
