Chez Zee’s Refreshing American Cuisine

Published by Monique on

Chez Zee has been around for almost 30 years and I just had my first visit to the beautiful quintessential Austin neighborhood spot! Not only is the restaurant family-run but they are dishing out delicious, fresh and creative eats.

I dined there with my dear blogger friend Nicole during lunch and we devoured these salads. First up is the Blueberry Bleu Salad with grilled chicken on top of baby field greens with candied walnuts, blueberries, Maytag bleu cheese, Mandarin oranges, Edamame beans and purple onions tossed with blueberry vinaigrette. This was so unique and tasty – the grilled chicken on top added a nice contrast to the freshness of the veggies.

Next is the Kale and Quinoa, Hummus salad with marinated in lemon vinaigrette dressing with dried cranberries, red onion rings, almonds and parmesan cheese – it’s surrounded by their house made hummus and grilled pita bread. Beautiful AND delightful!!

Last but not least was my favourite salad – Pecan Crusted Goat Cheese Salad with baby field greens, dried cherries, purple onions, diced tomatoes, and pecan crusted goat cheese and tossed with raspberry balsamic vinaigrette. I added salmon on top and it was so incredible!

We also indulged in a couple of starters – fried sliced dill pickles with chipotle ranch, and Lucinda’s basil cheese torta with basil pesto cream cheese, sun dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers and toasted pine nuts layered with Provolone cheese and served with crostinis. Speaking of indulgences… here come the desserts!

Although I didn’t eat any of the desserts, Nicole reassured me they were amazing 😉 I brought this home for Joel: bacon brownies with chili chocolate ice cream – a new seasonal dessert.

Whiskey peach pie with vanilla bean ice cream – isn’t it a beaut?!

Fresh fruit bavarian cake – I’ll have to go back for this one!

Lemon rosemary cake with lemon curd and fresh icing – please let me know if there’s a more perfect summer dessert, because I don’t think there is!

I loved my time at Chez Zee – I felt like I was taken away to a beautiful oasis. Their patio is equipped with fans and misters and surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. This is only a glimpse of what Chez Zee does – they have an extensive dinner menu as well, plus a fantastic looking brunch! They also have an event space for private dinners and parties.
