Omakase Sushi at Chinatown Westlake

Published by Monique on

One part I love about being a chef is trying other chefs’ unique creations. I went to Chinatown in Westlake last week and had the pleasure of trying Chef George’s omakase menu. Take a look below at my experience!

I love unfiltered saké so I ordered the Dreamy Clouds and it was perfectly crisp and fruity.

We started out with thin sliced octopus with a citrus ponzu oil. It was full of flavor and great meaty texture!

This next dish was one of my favourites. Fatty salmon (freshly sliced from the filet) with truffle oil and fresh truffle shavings, light soy sauce and a drizzle of honey mustard. It was so different and unexpected!

I wasn’t expecting dumplings but I’m so glad Chef sent them out! These were perfectly steamed and filled with chicken and basil. Add a drizzle of hot chili oil and you have the perfect bite!

This sashimi platter was not only beautifully and meticulously designed, but full of some of the best cuts of fish!! I’m a sucker for fresh ahi tuna and super fatty salmon. There’s nothing like it!

This roll isn’t on the menu yet – it’s called the Drunken Sailor and is filled with yellowtail, asparagus, avocado, and topped with fatty salmon, teriyaki and coriander. Talk about YUM!

This kampachi crudo from Hawaii is topped with sliced golden berries – I loved the contrast of sweet and savory. Pictured in the back is the mai tai – fruity and delicious! I had a glass of Meomi rosé and it was a great accompaniment.

Last up was the beautiful ahi tuna wrapped around wagyu and covered in green onion shavings with coriander sauce. It was such a delicious combination!

Chinatown Westlake serves happy hour every Monday – Friday from 3 – 6 pm. Their normal hours are 11 am – 9:30 pm everyday of the week. I recommend sitting at the bar to watch Chef George work his magic!
