A Guide to Paleo Restaurants in Austin

As most of you know, I’ve made a huge health switch and have been leading a paleo lifestyle since January 2. I plan to keep it going which brings me to share this very exciting and comprehensive list of paleo restaurants in Austin!

Bento Picnic*– 2600 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702
They are producing incredibly fresh, Asian inspired bento boxes for easy lunch and dinner options. Choose the garden option to ensure your bowl is paleo and pick your fave protein to add to it!

The Beer Plant3110 Windsor Rd, Austin, TX 78703
This vegan restaurant has a ton of great paleo options including the sriracha glazed brussels sprouts, harvester salad, and buffalo cauliflower wings. You can also get any of their sandwiches as a lettuce wrap.

Caroline – 621 Congress Ave Suite 101, Austin, TX 78701
The beet carpaccio and jicama tacos are great options to keep things paleo. Also the chef is happy to make modifications, like substituting olive oil in place of butter in his dishes (I recommend the cauliflower pilaf with salmon and asparagus).

The Cavalier – 2400 Webberville Rd suite a, Austin, TX 78702
I recently visited and chef was happy to make modifications for me! The chicken wings can be made gluten free and dairy free (the cajun rub is my fave) and the deviled eggs meet paleo guidelines as well. You can also get the hamburger in a lettuce wrap.

Citizen Eatery – 5011 Burnet Rd, Austin, TX 78756
This 100% vegan restaurant does a great job with being inclusive of all diets – the power bowl (sans quinoa and chickpeas) is a great option as well as their brussels sprouts, chorizo omelette and grilled pecan pesto beets.

Dai Due –  2406 Manor Rd, Austin, TX 78722
While their menu changes often, you can always count on meat-heavy dishes like the wild boar lettuce wrap, red snapper aguachile, wild boar confit, gulf oysters on the half shell, and deer ceviche.

Flower Child* – 500 W 2nd St #133, Austin, TX 78701
Turn to their salads with protein or create a plate of their sides for paleo options that make a great meal.

Forthright – 35 Brazos St, Austin, TX 78701
They always have health in mind, even in their more indulgent dishes. Chef can make modifications but a few dishes that are paleo safe include pork belly hash, house salad (sans croutons) with salmon or chicken, the burger or chicken sandwich (sans cheese) with gf bread and the power veggie bowl. Yum!

Honest Mary’s – 9828 Great Hills Trail Suite 300, Austin, TX 78759
Build your own bowl with a base of arugula, spinach, or sweet potatoes to create a fast and easy paleo bowl.

This notoriously healthy restaurant can come in handy when you’re looking for a paleo-compliant restaurant in downtown Austin. Choose the glass sweet potato noodles and throw on the meat and veggies for a yummy fresh meal.

Lucky Robot – 1303 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704
You might not think a sushi spot can be paleo, but they are creating a lot of great options for all types of diets. Ask for modifications or order sustainably-sourced sashimi from their menu.

Malibu Poke – 211 Walter Seaholm Dr LR 115, Austin, TX 78703
You can build your own bowl (and there are 60K combination possibilities so you can definitely make a paleo dream bowl.

Modern Market* – 401 Congress Ave Suite 100A, Austin, TX 78701
A few great paleo options include the Thai Coconut salad, the buddha bowl (sub rice for romaine), natural angus steak plate sans rice with fire roasted veggies and sweet potato mash, or pulled pork banh mi on gf bread.

Nancy’s Sky Garden* – 6448 E Hwy 290 A-100, Austin, TX 78723
They’re owned by Koriente and have a similar menu – get their glass sweet potato noodles with a protein and lots of veggies for a great paleo option (they also have vegan spicy mayo).

Picnik* – 4801 Burnet Rd, Austin, TX 78756
This place is a haven for people with food allergies or strict diets. They are 100% free of gluten, corn, soy and peanut. You can easily order almost anything on the menu! I recommend the harvest hash, chips and queso, and fish tacos to name a few!

Pitchfork Pretty2708 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702
They’re 100% gluten free and have some upscale menu items like the beef tartare, the roasted maitake and spaghetti squash, beef rib and more.

Ranch Hand1900 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702
Their famous tagline, “Stop Eating Shit For Lunch” is all you need to know. It’s delicious! 

Sala and Betty – 5201 Airport Blvd, Austin, TX 78751
Get their “choice plates” and create a paleo meal like the garlic green beans and beet greens salad with jalapeno aoili.

Snap Kitchen* – 4616 Triangle Ave, Austin, TX 78751
You can search their online meals by diet – choose paleo and you’ll find yummy meals like butter chicken on broccoli rice, chimichurri beef, grass-fed beef lasagna, romesco salmon, and so much more!

There are so many paleo options here including the roasted brussels sprouts, turkey burger wrapped in lettuce, and dashi ramen.
